“To be clear, Java and Bedrock will remain separate games with their own distinctive features.

If you already own the Java or Bedrock Edition on PC, the Minecraft team said that it may take up to 3 days for the other edition you’ll be getting for free to appear in the Minecraft game launcher. Minecraft Java & Bedrock Edition is priced at $30 and you can purchase it on the official Minecraft website. On PC, the two versions of the game are now sold together, and they also use the same launcher. Even better, Minecraft gamers who already own either the Java or the Bedrock edition of the game will get the other one for free.įor those unfamiliar, the Minecraft Java Edition is the “legacy” version of the game for Windows, macOS, and Linux, while Bedrock is the cross-platform version of the game that’s available on PC, mobile devices, and consoles. Everyone could buy it from the Windows Store.Minecraft developer Mojang Studios has released today the new Minecraft Java & Bedrock Edition for PC, which combines the two versions of the game in the same bundle.

Named the “Ender Update”, this implemented the following new features: On December 16th 2016, they released the non-beta version 1.0. With the release of Windows 10, Microsoft (owners of Mojang, the developer of Minecraft) released a beta version of Minecraft for Windows 10 on July 29th 2015. Not that this was a surprise – you could only get the free upgrade if you’d bought the Java edition prior to October 19th 2018, so the writing was definitely already “on the wall”. As of April 20th 2020, this offer was withdrawn.

Is that still the case? Is the upgrade still free? Well, there’s a specific version of the popular, world-building game for Windows 10 and, for those with the license for Minecraft PC edition, it was available as a free upgrade.

I know I may be using a broad brush here, but everyone likes Minecraft, right? I’ve got so many versions of it that I’ve lost count and am currently in the process of creating my own Minecraft server.
